LIONS CLUB OF UNION CITY NEWSLETTER
NO. 12 June 3, 2004
REPORT ON BOARD MEETING OF MAY 10, 2004:
We approved accepting a new member, Alexander Choi. Alex is the owner/operator
of Choi's Marshall Arts in Union City. His sponsor is Lion Tom Kitayama.
Our Leo's Club reported on their candy drive to raise money to purchase a service
dog for Angela Rodriguez, age 12. The Leos bought candy and groceries in
bulk, repackaged it, and sold them to fellow students at Logan. They raised
$300.00. A service dog is trained to open and close doors, pick up items,
and do other tasks for people who cannot do those tasks for themselves.
REPORT ON CLUB MEETING OF MAY 13, 2004
Our guest speaker at this meeting was Aman Grewall, our student speaker candidate
from Logan High School. He presented his speech. We also enjoyed
his responses to our questions about the direction of his life. It is always
a pleasure to hear from hard working talented young people who have the world
before them.
We had a visitor from India. He is Lion Ajitbhai Thanawala from Bombay,
India. He serves his district as chair for work with the blind. He
reported to us that there are 12 million blind in India.
Our own past district governor Rex Davis and his wife joined us for the meeting. He
was accompanied by his lovely wife Gerri. PDG Lion Rex inducted new member
Lion Alexander Choi into our club.
We were glad to see Lion Bernard Lipscomb and his wife Dolores. Lion Bernard
brought as his guest Tom Allison. Lion Bernanrd will sponsor Tom Allison
to join our club. Tom is a former member of our club and has served our
club as Club Secretary.
